Ninebot ES2 Vs. Xiaomi M365

Electric scooters’ popularity has been on a rise over the last years due to its convenience and fair pricing.

One of their most significant advantages is that they operate on rechargeable battery power, meaning that users don’t have the obligation to spend their savings on gas. Not only do they save money, but they also save time and the environment thanks to their maneuverability, which allows them to rush past heavy traffic while keeping the air clean since they are electrically powered.

The most popular e-scooters on the market today are the Ninebot ES2 and the Xiaomi M365. They share many similarities in various ways, which is why this article aims to generally compare them in order to determine the best out of the two.

The Xiaomi Mi M365 vs. Ninebot ES2 Similarities & Differences

The ES2 and M365 are both doing well with:

  • a top speed of 25 km/h
  • a user-friendly application
  • an easily foldable scooter
  • a smooth ride

Power and Distance

Speed comparisons

Both of these scooters have a top speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph). Despite having a lower-powered motor, the Mi M365 seems to outdo the Ninebot ES2 when it comes to speed. Additionally, the Mi M365 has a more powerful battery with up to 50% more punch power. Correspondingly, a bigger battery equals to a longer charge; the ES2 has a charging time of 3.5 hours while the Mi M365 takes 5 hours. The Mi M365 also comes with a 7800 mAh battery, versus the Ninebot ES2, which functions with a 5200 mAh battery. While the Mi M365 has an extended range of 12 miles, the ES2 only reaches an 8 mile range.

Ride Comfort and Grip

The Ninebot ES2 is equipped with a shock absorber while the Mi M365 comes with 8.5” front and rear pneumatic tires that absorb bumps when properly inflated. When compared, the ES2’s shock absorber is definitely less effective.

The Ninebot ES2 comes with an 8” front tire and a 7.5” rear tire. The front and rear suspension of the ES2 is comfortable, especially during long rides on hard terrain.

Both models offer soft rubber grips and smooth rides.

Braking Performance and Safety

Ninebot ES2

*Both scooters were tested with the same rider and conditions*

The Xiaomi Mi M365 rear disc brakes stopped in 4,7 meters while the Segway Ninebot ES2’s brakes came to a stop only at 8,7 meters. Additionally, the Mi M365 is superior when it comes to braking performance since it comes with a mechanical disc brake unlike the foot brake on the ES2.

Additional info on the Mi M365: The mechanical disc brake is adjustable to suit the user, and the 8.5″ pneumatic tires allow better traction when braking.

User Interface and App Support

The Ninebot ES2’s dashboard has a friendlier interface, but it does not come with a bell (though, it could be easily added). When it comes to the applications, Segway’s ES2 takes the lead as it offers more features than its competitor.

Folding Design Differences

The Ninebot ES2 has a mechanism that is much simpler than the Mi M365 when it comes to erecting and folding. When folded, the ES2 stands at 34cm tall, making it easier to store. In comparaison, the Mi M365 is also slightly heavier than the ES2, making the Ninebot ES2 much more portable and less bulky when carrying.

LED Lights & Display

Both e-scooters come with a white front LED headlight and a red rear-light, but the Ninebot ES2 stands out more, because of its 16 LED underbody lights that are controlled using the app. The lights have several effects and colors. The Mi M365, however, has a brighter headlight, and both rear lights flash when it brakes.

The display of the ES2 is more interactive than the Mi M365, showing the battery level, speedometer, and Bluetooth status, while the Mi M365 only indicates the battery status.

Summary

In summary, the Segway Ninebot ES2 is a pretty good scooter which pretty much has it all in terms of performance, looks, and extras. While the ES2 is more costly, it can be used by beginners, and its specs (provided by the manufacturer) rank higher than the Xiaomi M365.

However, due to the numerous reports of issues (brakes failure & the airless tires loosening up the hardware, etc.) and the fact that it performed less well than the Mi M365 in real-life tests, it is only fair to say that the Xiaomi Mi M365 wins.

For the following reasons: easier to maintain, to repair, better ride quality and assistance is quick and efficient for parts replacement, making it an easy process.
